Art Journal Explorations with Gwen Lafleur
Friday, April 19, 2024
10:00 am-5:00 pm, 1 hour break for provided lunch
Location: 1st floor classroom at Artistic Artifacts

In this brand new full-day mixed media workshop, we'll use a variety of materials to create our own, unique wrap-style art journals. We'll play with different substrates, fabric, paper, stitching, embellishments, stamping, and paints as we assemble and embellish the book and then begin working on the inner pages. There will be demos and discussion on building layers, creating backgrounds, and adding your own personal flair and style into your work. You should walk away from class with a one-of-a-kind Artist Book that has you well on your way to continuing your explorations beyond the classroom. Your class kit — a $15 fee paid directly to the instructor the morning of class — includes the following (also noted are shared-use supplies available to students during class): Materials for the cover and inner pages of your book; bookbinding thread and tapestry needles; paint markers and a variety of PaperArtsy Fresco acrylic paints to use; Gwen’s StencilGirl stencil designs and PaperArtsy stamps; variety of patterned papers and some ephemera; selection of fabrics to share; embellishments and more. Student Supply List: download your PDF supply list for details on what is provided for your use during class and what to bring with you.

About the Instructor: Gwen Lafleur is a lifelong artist, crafter, instructor, and world traveler living in her hometown of Herndon, Virginia with her adorable (and opinionated) dog Jake. She has been involved in arts and crafts her entire life, trying anything from drawing lessons to paper crafts and finally finding her true home as a mixed media artist. Gwen's work has been displayed in galleries and can be found in private collections around the world and has also been published in Cloth Paper Scissors, Somerset Studio, Belle Armoire Jewelry, and Creative Scrapbooker magazines. (You may also have spotted her as a cast member in the pilot episode of Destination Craft, filmed in Bali in 2015.) Gwen is also a product designer with rubber stamps with PaperArtsy, stencils available through StencilGirl Products, a line of embossing powders and embellishments from Emerald Creek Craft Supplies and embossing powders with WOW!
