Art Show in a Box with Gwen Lafleur
Saturday, April 20, 2024
10:00 am-5:00 pm, 1 hour break for provided lunch
Location: 1st floor classroom at Artistic Artifacts

This all new full-day workshop brings together the art of creating a beautiful handmade artist book that will showcase multiple works of art along with a of a one-of-a-kind display case that can be used vertically or horizontally, hung, or set out on a shelf or table. We will work together to assemble and embellish our displays and create a book (binding is optional) that nestles perfectly inside. We'll begin working on the pages of the book in class which will include demonstrations for combining elements, bringing fabric and paper together, adding both stitched and glued elements, and more. At the end of class you should be well on your way to having a beautiful and compact exhibition of art that, when finished, will be ready to display. Your class kit — a $20 fee paid directly to the instructor the morning of class — includes the following (also noted are shared use supplies for student use during class): Wooden components for the main box and lid; hinges with screws; metal corners for your lid; a variety of papers and fabric to use as the pages of your book/art pieces; a variety of embroidery threads and needles and patterned papers and some ephemera and rub-ons to share; selection of fabrics and some fabric embellishments to share and more. Student Supply List: Download your PDF supply list for details on what is provided for your use during class and what to bring with you.
