Wonky Sisters with Libby Williamson
Saturday, April 20, 2024
10:00 am-5:00 pm, 1 hour break for provided lunch
Location: Upstairs classroom (access stairs only) at Artistic Artifacts

A droopy eyelid, a crooked smile, or an adorable snaggletooth… let’s face it, we’ve all got our ‘wrinkles’! We’ll embrace our flaws, loosen up, and create wonderful Wonky Sisters. Have no worries about creating anatomically correct facial proportions. The wonkier, the better! You will be provided with a stash of pre-painted fabrics to use in your collage, with no painting required. Sew by machine or hand to secure the collages and add as many ‘wrinkles’ as you like. Libby’s approach to free-motion sewing is very loose and forgiving (and fussy quilting rules will be broken). This joyful class is filled with color, music, laughter, and chocolate! Note: This is not a one-day project but you will get a good start on your Wonky Sister. Your class kit — a $35 fee paid directly to the instructor the morning of class — includes the following: a huge stash of colorful fabrics (hand-painted by Libby), canvas, back ground fabric, embroidery threads and hand-sewing needles, and additional materials needed to create your sweet sister. There will be several sewing machines to share in the classroom and additional tools will be available to use. Student Supply List: Simply your scissors and a smile: your kit fee will cover all necessary materials! The following supplies are optional: Art apron if you usually wear one; scraps of fabric to paint, with provided brushes and paint — note that if you choose to paint additional fabrics for your collage, they must be completely dry before sewing. If you live locally, feel free to bring your own sewing machine with free-motion capability and presser foot and basic sewing machine tools to avoid waits to use the Summit-provided BERNINA sewing area.

About the Instructor: Libby Williamson, a mixed-media fiber artist, pushes the boundaries of her art, incorporating metal, rope, paint, vintage relics, used tea bags and a wide variety of fabrics and fibers into her work. She relishes the challenge of constructing fiber art that entails stitching (with pliers) through rigid and coarse materials. Though technically quilts, her works are rarely categorized as such. Williamson’s award-winning work has been exhibited internationally in numerous invitational and juried exhibits, textile and art museums. She presents workshops at guilds, museums, shops, and destination art retreats, as well as offering online classes. Williamson has been published in Quilting Arts Magazine, Patchwork Professional, and Fiber Arts Now and has appeared on Quilting Arts TV, and THE QUILT SHOW with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. She holds BA in studio art and is a credentialed art teacher in New York and California.Though she pursues many craft forms, Williamson’s passion and primary focus remain with fabrics and fibers.
