Starting with a design of simple shapes, participants will create a beautiful layered, stitched and bead encrusted fabric collage fantasy-scape. Julie will suggest options for the initial design, followed by the steps to assemble a ‘fabric sandwich’ using painted cheesecloth, yarns, fabric scraps, and tulle. Participants will learn a simple approach to beading their shapes, with the addition of ruched ribbons, couched yarns and a selection of approaches to attaching shells or sea glass. Needle weaving with and without beads will round out the techniques for this fun project. Your class kit — a $35 fee paid directly to the instructor the morning of class — is available in six colors and includes almost everything you need: fabrics, tulle, ribbon, beads and much more! Fill out our form to select your color and for a complete list of the contents of the custom kit Julie will create. Please complete this form by April 6. Please request your color choice by April 6. ♦ Student Supply List (please bring the following with you to class) ● Threads: Pearl cotton sizes 8 and/or 12 (Eleganza by WonderFil Specialty Threads is available at Artistic Artifacts; other sizes and types of thread are also okay) ● Fabric and embroidery scissors ● Pins ● Removable fabric marking pen or pencil ● Bottle caps in different sizes (1 in.-5 in.) to use as circle templates, or circle stencils (Julie will bring some to class to share but you may want your own) ● Optional, but recommended: Clear gridded ruler ● Optional: Metallic threads sizes 8 or 4 (Kreinik, for example) OR threads that have metallics in them such as Wonderfil’ GlaMore (12wt rayon/metallic available at Artistic Artifacts) ● Optional: a 10 in. square of cotton backing fabric.
