Explore metal transfers and surface design on canvas! Learn how to create stunning metal transfers and how to connect your transfers to pages without using glue. Learn several simple bookbinding skills while creating a book out of painted and collaged canvas. Leighanna will also share her favorite collage and surface design techniques using gesso, ink and paint to create beautiful textures, colors and surfaces. “With the intention of focusing on gratitude, I spent a good part of 2020 creating special handmade books to honor the important places, people and memories that have been a such an important part of my life,” shares Leighanna. “I would love to teach you how to create this lovely keepsake, a substantial canvas book, using a theme that is close to your heart.” Your final book will be approximately 7½ in. x 6½ in. and include at least six metal transfers and 20 writing surfaces. Your class kit — a $30 fee paid directly to the instructor the morning of the first day of class class — includes many materials needed: some vintage ephemera for collage, nuts & bolts, wire, needles, cheesecloth, sandpaper, waxed paper, use of all tools including heat guns, patina, ink, stencils, heavy glue. Important note: Creating your version of this amazing artist book requires specific supplies (order early!) and a small amount of advance preparation that must be completed before your class. “I ask that you bring these exact supplies to class because I have tested them and know they will work for this specific project,“ states Leighanna. “I will never ask you to bring something that we won’t use in class.” Download and print your student supply list with Leighanna’s links and details on how to prepare for class.
