Eco-Printed Scarf with Logwood or Madder with Dyann Alery Black
Saturday, August 3, 2024
10:30 am – 4:30 pm, ½ hour lunch break

Most Supplies Provided! In this eco-printing class we will be working with the natural dyes of logwood (resulting in silver blues and purples) and madder (rich reds and oranges). Both are roots; Dyann will have the colors all mixed and ready for use. Dyann notes “Please bring botanicals that have larger print surfaces. Maples, Oaks, Birch, any big leaf type will work as long as it isn’t waxy. Smaller leaves are not the best for this application.” Your registration fee includes the $30 kit fee providing the 8 in. x 72 in. silk scarf, chemicals and other necessary supplies.  Download your supply list to view & print, which includes a list of botanical matter that prints well (pleaser review keeping in mind that for this beautiful technique you want large leaves).  Dyann notes, “We work quickly the first half of the class. This is to ensure that our scarves have enough time to ‘process’. During the processing time of 90 minutes, you are free to take lunch. Or use your class discount in the shop!” As seen in our photos, previous students have had amazing results learning this printing method using natural flowers, leaves, stems and vines and natural colorants!

About the Instructor: Dyann Alery Black is a self-taught artist who lives in New Mexico. Her primary mediums are mixed-media and painting with acrylics, and she loves to explore surface design techniques on fabrics.
