Exploring Cyanotype Prints with Susan Gantz
Saturday, July 20, 2024
10:30 am – 4:30 pm

One of the oldest methods of producing photographs on fabric and paper uses a process called “cyanotype.” Images produced with this method are an intense blue color related to exposure to ultraviolet light — and the color can be altered with the addition of other chemicals including hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and washing soda. Each student will create several prints on paper and on fabric exploring both dry and wet processing, and the resulting work is colorfast. Your registration fee includes a $15 supply fee to cover instructor-provided cyanotype solutions and other provided materials and equipment. Students provide their own Cyanotype Pretreated Fabric Sheets and more — download and view/print your complete student supply list »
Note: The cyanotype process requires UV light, so this class must be postponed and rescheduled if it is actively raining the day of class (overcast conditions, if dry, will work: simply takes longer to insure appropriate exposure).

About the Instructor: Susan Gantz is a multitalented artist who enjoys a variety of mediums and whose work has been shown regionally in the D.C. area. Susan has a wide variety of mixed media art experience: polymer clay, alcohol inks, (she admits that she is “addicted” to exploring monoprinting techniques using gel printing plates), eco-printing and so much more.
