Artistic Artifacts is a creative resource for fabric, fiber, and mixed media art products sold online and in our shop in Alexandria, VA. We are an authorized BERNINA dealer and carry a full line of WonderFil Specialty Threads; Painter’s Threads for hand stitching and Sashiko thread. Our goal is to be the source of Creative Finds for Creative Minds — and we were thrilled to be selected as one of the four winners of the Creative Hub Award, new for 2025, in the Local Quilt Shop contest (see more below). Artistic Artifacts carries a wide selection of fabrics for the sewing and quilting enthusiast — modern quilting cottons, Australian Aborigine-designs, Indian, Indonesian and African prints, hand dyed and so much more — along with a variety of notions and sewing supplies. You will also find a wide selection of art supplies, and vintage finds.
Artistic Artifacts hosts a wide variety of fiber and mixed media classes and special events in our shop as well as virtual offerings. Our Alexandria shop is also home to the monthly meetings of Judy's Altered Minds (JAMs), an altered art group open to all who are interested.
In 2023 we inaugurated our annual Creative Minds Summit. For 2025 our 4-day mixed media event will take place April 24-27, with Judy Gula joined by the following talented fiber & mixed media artists: Julie Booth, Kecia Deveney and Leighanna Light.
We are overjoyed to have received one of four Creative Hub Awards as part of the 2025 Local Quilt Shop Contest — the pride, joy and gratitude we felt hearing our name announced is indescribable! And we repeated as the regional winner for Virginia — so exciting! The Local Quilt Shop Contest, organized by ByAnnie, runs annually from the 4th Saturday in January through the end of February, with customers voting and submitting comments for their favorite quilt shops. The 2025 contest saw a 13% increase in total votes: more than 60,500 votes cast, and more than 2,300 stores across 14 countries entered. In 2024 we were excited to win for the first time, recognized as the 2024 regional winner. Our blog includes a link to view the ByAnnie-created highlight video for our shop.
