With a weight of 5.6 oz. per square yard, Essex yarn dyed fabric is a beautiful alternative to quilting cottons for quilts and clothing. Please note: Shrinkage and Care: Essex shrinks more than cotton sheeting. In particular when using Essex for garments, it is best pre-wash (cold water recommended) your fabrics. Wash dark colors separately (using color catchers is always a great way to ensure no bleeding occurs if you have concerns). Due to the woven nature of the fabric, Essex tends to ravel. Robert Kaufman Fabrics recommends buying slightly more fabric than you need to account for shrinkage and raveling.
