Heat set your fabrics painted or block printed with Artistic Artifact Brand Textile Paints so they can be laundered (machine washable in water up to 104° F) tumble-dried, or dry-cleaned. After applying paint to fabric, allow it to air-dry thoroughly. Then to heat-set, use one of these four methods:

  1. Iron at the hottest setting appropriate for your fabric from the back side for 5 minutes, OR, place a clean dry cloth over the front of the design and iron for 5 minutes. Use a dry iron — no steam or spraying — and keep your iron moving to prevent scorching. (Protect your ironing board cover with a Goddess sheet or a scrap piece of fabric.)
  2. Tumble dry with heat: use a commercial clothes dryer for 45 to 60 minutes, or use a home clothes dryer for 60 to 90 minutes. Use the hottest setting on the dryer the fabric can take.
  3. Use a screen printers dryer for 1-2 minutes set at 350°F (180°C).
  4. Loosely roll fabric between layers of unprinted newsprint and place in a dry oven for 2 to 3 minutes at 350°F (180°C).

Note: Do not launder your painted fabric, quilt or garment for 10 to 14 days after fabric is heat set. Wash fabric with cold or lukewarm water (never hot) and choose gentle or delicate cycles and agitation, using a mild detergent. Garments should be turned inside out for washing. When drying your painted items, don’t mix in jeans or other heavy/coarse items, and do not overload your dryer.
