Free Motion Quilting for Beginners with Nancy Hershberger
Saturday, February 1, 2025 AND Saturday, February 8
10:00 am – 5:00 pm each day, 1 hour lunch break
Designed specifically for the novice, this series is designed to take the fear out of Free Motion Quilting (FMQ). Using their own domestic machines, students learn the basic motions that develop into motifs. Beginners 1 on Saturday, February 1 will cover the Basics. We learn the language of FMQ; the ‘motions’ that develop into motifs. There will be homework from the Beginner I class that you must bring to the Beginner II class. No stress. It’s fun. Really. Beginners 2 on Saturday, February 8 will cover the Motifs. This class builds on the motions learned in the first class as we explore organic and classic FMQ motifs. Note: while this is a class for those beginning to explore FMQ, it is not a beginning sewing class — students must have a working knowledge of their sewing machines. About the Instructor: Nancy Hershberger is an Art Quilter and instructor who lives in rural Pennsylvania. She loves creating with fabric, thread with a little bit of inks, acrylics and oils, and has participated in numerous Artist–in-Residence programs through the National Park Service. “I started making traditional quilts, but the desire to create my own original designs soon took hold,“ shares Nancy. “My current body of work consists mostly of landscapes. Like the paintings they resemble, my art quilts contain ink and paint in addition to fabric, but they are, first and foremost quilts.” Visit Nancy's website »
