Allow stories to unfold while intuitively stitching and beading this uniquely shaped bag (finishes to approximately 10 in. tall and 7 in. wide) based on a late 19th century Sioux buckskin bag. Starting with a sturdy 100% wool felt base, participants will collage with bits of painted cheesecloth, fabric scraps, lace or doilies, yarns, ribbons and tulle. Then the fun — and stories — begin with couching, ruching, needle lace (including attaching sea glass in the lace), adding sequins and incorporating beads in your hand stitches to create richly encrusted surfaces. A costume jewelry pin and a Czech Glass or Vintage Novelty button (for your closure) will add to your story’s narrative. Julie will also demo finishing techniques including how to add a loop and button closure, stitching in a lining, stitching up the sides with the option to add a twined strap. Your class kit — a $45 fee paid directly to the instructor the morning of the first day of class class — includes almost everything you need: 100% wool felt bag base (available in eight colors), hand painted cheesecloth, fabrics, yarn, tulle, ribbon, beads and much more. Fill out our form to select your color and for a complete list of the contents of the custom kit Julie will create. Please complete this form by April 6. ♦ Student Supply List (please bring the following with you to class) ● Threads: Pearl cotton sizes 8 and/or 12 (Eleganza by WonderFil Specialty Threads is available at Artistic Artifacts; other sizes and types of thread are also okay) ● Optional: Metallic threads sizes 8 or 4 (Kreinik, for example), OR threads that have metallics in them such as Wonderfil’s GlaMore (12wt rayon/metallic available at Artistic Artifacts) ● Decorative cotton fabric — ¼ to ½ yard — for lining (find the perfect fabric at Artistic Artifacts!) ● Pins ● Fabric and embroidery scissors ● Removable fabric marking pen or pencil ● Clear gridded ruler.
