Product Details

This authentic handwoven IKAT textile originates from Sumba, Indonesia, where weaving traditions have been passed down through generations as a cherished cultural art form. This striking piece features a sophisticated palette of slate blue, warm brown, and deep black, woven into bold horizontal bands that showcase the full range of Sumbanese supplementary weft techniques.

The wide central band draws the eye with large-scale diagonal diamond lattice figures rendered in soft blue-grey and cream — critter forms and interlocking geometric shapes that give Sumbanese textiles their distinctive character. Flanking bands introduce a black-and-white checkerboard stripe, rich brown rows punctuated with cream dash accents, and finer bands of repeating cross-hatched diamonds in slate blue. Vertical white accent threads run throughout, creating a rhythmic grid that ties the composition together. Size: 13" x 58" 100% natural dyed cotton.

This piece was personally selected by Judy during her recent buying trip to Indonesia — chosen for its exceptional layering of pattern, scale contrast, and earthy neutral palette.

No two pieces are identical. Natural color variation and slight irregularities in the weave are inherent to handmade textile traditions and are a mark of authentic handcraft.

Suggested uses: apparel yardage, quilting accent panels, home décor, wall hangings, tote bags, and mixed-media fiber art projects.
