This authentic handwoven IKAT textile from Sumba, Indonesia showcases a beautifully balanced palette that sets it apart from more common earth-tone Sumbanese pieces. Dusty peach-rose, slate blue, warm brown, and cream come together in a layered horizontal band composition that demonstrates exceptional weaving skill and design complexity.
The commanding central band features a wide field of slate blue filled with flowing cream scroll work — graceful spirals, nested diamond forms, and organic curvilinear figures that give this piece an almost lace-like quality unusual in tribal woven textiles. Above and below, rich brown bands carry bold cream geometric blocks alternating with eight-pointed medallions. Fine dusty rose and pink stripe bands frame the full composition, their subtle zigzag borders adding delicate linear detail between the major pattern zones. Size: 15.5" x 64" 100% natural dyed fabric.
This piece was personally selected by Judy during her recent buying trip to Indonesia — drawn to its rare peach-rose colorway and the exceptional intricacy of the central scroll motif.
No two pieces are identical. Natural color variation and slight irregularities in the weave are inherent to handmade textile traditions and are a mark of authentic handcraft.
Suggested uses: apparel yardage, quilting accent panels, home décor, wall hangings, tote bags, and mixed-media fiber art projects.
