Sign Language with Seth Apter
Sunday, September 20 2026
10:30 am – 4:30 pm, ½ hour lunch break
Location: Upstairs classroom (access via stairs only)

Join Seth for a one-day workshop and create abstract, mixed media collages that focus on your own individual sign language. “A sign can be thought of as a mark meant to communicate a message, convey information, or express an emotion. We will be using signs, symbols, and marks rather than representational objects and text to create our artworks,” Seth writes. “The background for our pieces will be made layer by layer with the Gel Plate using paint and ink. This will be followed by the addition of our signs and symbols using many of the core processes of mixed media: stamping, stenciling, mark making, and collaging — using abstract forms only to tell the story. For some artists this process will be comfortable and familiar, while for others it might be a stretch outside their comfort zone. In either case, we will focus on the joy of the creative process.” Download your student supply list now »
