Circle Framed Pentagon Star with Dudley Shugart
Saturday, August 22, 2026
10:30 am – 4:30 pm, ½ hour lunch break
Location: Upstairs classroom (access via stairs only)
Join us to remake a traditional 15 in. quilt block with a pentagon star center set in a circle. Great graphic punch for pillows, or to build a quilt with. Students will complete at least one block in class; two or more depending on your speed. The class will teach you how to use templates to cut the pieces as well as the different techniques for machine piecing — including piecing the circle within the square block. Pattern will be provided to students. Student Supply List:
-
Fabrics: — Each block contains five different fabrics, so please bring at least five coordinating fabric, fat-eighth size or larger for each block.
- A favorite fat quarter bundle gives you options
- Aim for different scale prints with some light, medium and dark tones for the most effective stars
- Quilt rulers: any size square ruler and a 24-in. x 6 in. ruler
- rotary cutter and cutting mat
- Sewing machine in good working order that you are comfortable using
- Basic sewing notions (thread, pins, scissors, fabric marking tools, etc.)
Note: students are expected to have basic sewing skills and knowledge of their sewing machine: this is not an introduction to sewing or a beginning sewing class.
About the Instructor: Dudley Shugart, a member of the Burke chapter of Quilter’s Unlimited, has been quilting for decades as well as having years of experience working at quilt shops, including Artistic Artifacts. Dudley also frequently demonstrates specific quilting techniques at the shop.
