Handcrafted Batik Presentation & Market with Brahma Tirta Sari
Thursday, July 23, 2026
6:30-7:30 pm, presentation | Shopping to follow!

As the internationally recognized batik artists Brahma Tirta Sari prepare to teach Wax/Threads/Roots at our shop, we’re happy to give our community the chance to learn more about the traditions and history of batik and to shop the exquisite batik work created by Agus Ismoyo, and Nia FliamAdd a one of a kind piece of fiber art or accessory to your collection!

This event will include many handcrafted pieces! Nia and Agus founded heir batik studio Brahma Tirta Sari in 1985, built on the principle of collaboration — an ethos they continue to embody in their creation of contemporary fine art batik. (Note that the included photographs are examples from 2025’s Market and of their previous work, and may not be available.)

As per the International Folk Art Market, “The artisans at Babaran Segaragunung draw on techniques passed down through generations while introducing new approaches that reflect cultural traditions and contemporary contexts. Their work ranges from textiles to jewelry incorporating batik motifs, creating a cohesive collection tied to Indonesia’s artistic heritage legacy... Some textiles undergo as many as 70 layers of this labor-intensive process, producing designs reflecting life's interconnectedness and the environment. These patterns often take inspiration from ancient cosmological principles and mythological stories, ensuring that each piece carries meaning beyond its visual appeal. Agus’ jewelry extends these narratives into wearable designs, providing another dimension to his exploration of batik as a medium for storytelling.”
