Beginning Quilting with Dudley Shugart
Saturdays, January 4, 11, 18 and 25 (total four Saturday morning sessions)
10:30 am - 1:30 pm
Location: Upstairs classroom (access stairs only)
These four sessions will teach you the entire process of making a quilt, from cutting out your fabric to binding. This class will use FreeSpirit Block Party: 40 Quilt Blocks, 5 Samplers, 20 Modern Designers (purchase required by each student) as a text. The first class will cover constructing blocks the teacher selects; the second class will be blocks each student chooses; the third class covers instruction on setting and sashing and the fourth and final class reviews quilting and binding.
Student Supply List: In addition to the Free Spirit Block Party book, each student should bring —
- 5 to 7 coordinating fat quarters (students may decide to add more colors as class progresses)
- an 8-inch square ruler and a 24-inch ruler
- rotary cutter and cutting mat
- sewing machine in good working order that you are comfortable using
- basic sewing notions (thread, pins, scissors, fabric marking tools, etc.)
Note: students are expected to have basic sewing skills and knowledge of their sewing machine: this is not an introduction to sewing or a beginning sewing class. Email us if you have questions about this class.
