Create a hand stitched landscape/cityscape that expresses the essence of a special-to-you place. Julie will guide you through the process of designing an abstracted version of your special place based on personal photos that you bring to class. Along the way, you’ll learn Julie’s approach to layered fabric collage, choosing interesting hand stitches to fill in the spaces of your scape (including needle lace and ruching), free style bead embroidery and attaching place-related natural objects using thread nets. Julie will also demo some finishing techniques. (This class is suitable for all levels, though some experience with hand-stitching is helpful.) Your class kit — a $35 fee paid directly to the instructor the morning of class — is available in six colors and includes almost everything you need: fabrics, tulle, ribbon, beads and much more! Fill out our form to select your color and for a complete list of the contents of the custom kit Julie will create. Please request your color choice by April 6. ♦ Student Supply List (please bring the following with you to class) ● Threads: Pearl cotton sizes 8 and/or 12 (Eleganza by WonderFil Specialty Threads is available at Artistic Artifacts; other sizes and types of thread are also okay) ● Fabric and embroidery scissors ● Pins ● Removable fabric marking pen or pencil ● Optional, but recommended: Clear gridded ruler ● Optional: Metallic threads sizes 8 or 4 (Kreinik, for example) OR threads that have metallics in them such as Wonderfil’ GlaMore (12wt rayon/metallic available at Artistic Artifacts) ● Optional: a 10 in. square of cotton backing fabric.
