Hand Carved Wall Art From Indonesia - Goddess

This hand-carved wall plaque from Indonesia depicts a serene goddess face surrounded by an elaborately detailed ceremonial headdress — a form deeply rooted in Balinese Hindu artistic tradition. The rounded face is painted in rich terracotta red with white-accented eyes and deep red lips, conveying the calm, knowing expression characteristic of divine feminine figures in Balinese iconography. She may represent Dewi Sri, the goddess of rice and fertility, or a similar protective deity — a presence traditionally displayed in the home to invite blessing and beauty. Size: 12" x 9"

The surrounding headdress is a tour de force of hand carving. A scalloped floral crown rings the top, its petals painted with accents of red and green. Cascading layers of feather and leaf forms frame the face on both sides, each detail individually carved and painted. Below the face, a central lotus bud flanked by sweeping wing-like leaf panels tapers to a pointed base — giving the piece its distinctive shield-like silhouette.
