These mixed media houses are so fun to make. Create a series and display around your house; do a theme for your houses (family, holidays, etc. — or how about hanging them on your Christmas tree? Kecia says, “Think outside the box!” This can be considered a soft sculpture or assemblage (no power tools) as you work with various components. Learn how to unite your fabric scraps, ephemera and imagination in a cohesive manner. Your class kit — a $10 cash fee paid directly to the instructor the morning of class — includes much of what you need: two bricks of dry floral foam, use of ephemera, cardboard, glue gun, sewing pin, stamp pads, vintage postcards, fabric scraps, embroidery floss and needles and use of black Artistic Artifacts textile paint. ♦ Student Supply List (please bring the following with you to class) ● personal photo or tintype approximately 2 in. square (Kecia will have some tintypes available to purchase) ● a variety of special fabrics, fabric scraps and ribbons: no more than what would fit in a gallon-sized food storage bag. (Kecia will also have fabrics to share) ● small paintbrush (not foam) to spread glue ● 1 in. wide roll of masking tape ● scissors ● 4 small (or 2 large) bulldog/binder clips.

About the Instructor: Kecia Deveney is a mixed media artist based in the Jersey Shore channeling her life experiences into whimsical works that playfully distort our reality. She incorporates fabric, textiles, jewelry design, sculpture, and painting into a colorful eclectic practice that seeks to inspire others to acknowledge their inherent creative spirit. A self-taught artist, she rejects the rules and notions of fine art in a vibrant juxtaposition of figuration and abstraction with an emphasis on textured visceral works. Her work continues to teach us about the value of accepting your individuality and allowing your distinct style of creativity to flourish.
