This authentic handwoven IKAT textile originates from Sumba, Indonesia, one of the most celebrated islands for traditional Indonesian weaving. Woven using time-honored techniques passed down through generations, the fabric features bold horizontal bands alternating between slate blue and warm earthy tan, grounded by deep black accent stripes.
Each band is richly detailed with geometric critter figures — stylized animals rendered in creamy white and golden tan — surrounded by eight-pointed star medallions, cross-hatched diamonds, and repeating border patterns. The vertical white accent lines that punctuate the repeat are a hallmark of Sumbanese supplementary weft weaving, adding rhythm and structure to the overall composition. Size: 15.5" x 63" 100% natural dyed cotton.
No two pieces are identical. Natural color variation and slight irregularities in the weave are inherent to handmade textile traditions and contribute to each piece's unique character.
Suggested uses: apparel yardage, quilting accent panels, home décor, wall hangings, tote bags, and mixed-media fiber art projects.
