Machine Magic with Katherine Nichols (4 Sessions)
Saturdays: February 13, February 27, March 6, and March 13, 2027
1:00–4:00 pm
Have you explored all the decorative stitches on your machine? In the Machine Magic series, we will be using techniques from the book Machine Magic by Deborah Louie (required for attending this class). During the four-part series we will experiment with decorative stitches to applique and embellish flowers, clamshells, and leaves to make your own decorative piece. The first class will explore decorative stitching with various thread weights by making a stitch dictionary, and the second class will use decorative stitches to stitch clamshell shapes. Class three will focus on machine appliqued leaves and flowers. Homework after this class will be to design an appliqued ‘garden’ project of your own and bring cut-out shapes to the last class, during which we will practice sewing vines and connecting shapes, with each student working individually to complete their own design. Tips for finishing your project with free-motion quilting will also be discussed. Download your Student Supply List PDF now »
