Modern Hand Stitching Sampler with Judy Gula
Thursday evenings, October 15, 29 and November 19, 2026
5:30–8:30 pm
Location: Upstairs classroom (access via stairs only)
Over three Thursday evenings, we’re working through Ruth Chandler's Modern Hand Stitching — but we’re not stopping at ‘traditional!’ Each class introduces new stitches from the book, then we push them past what's on the page: different threads, different scale, different rules. Come with your fabric stitch book base already assembled (see below link in your supply list). We'll stitch together each week, and you'll have homework assigned and keep stitching in your book between classes. Judy will bring sample threads to experiment with and talk through, including WonderFil Eleganza and Painter’s thread — a great way to see how a stitch changes personality depending on what you're using to make it. Student Supply list: in addition to Ruth’s book, please bring the following with you to class:
-
Your sewn fabric base — instructions for making your stitch sampler book base to embroider on are included in Ruth’s book and/or download your instructional handout PDF
- Students are required to assemble this base before our first session so we can dive right in with the stitching!
-
Tulip crewel needles, assorted sizes
-
Perle cotton threads, in assorted colors (these can be added as we go)
